Every church website has one… a page with photographs of the church, and members of the parish doing things in the church. This is ours. We hope you enjoy it.
Renovations
Mount Calvary is currently in the midst of a large renovation project, which will include repainting of the nave and the chancel, new flooring, refurbishment and respacing of the pews, improvements to the parking lot, and the erection of a new steeple. Following Low Sunday (March 30), Masses will be celebrated at the altar in the undercroft until late summer, 2008. In the meantime, here are some photographs of the work as it progresses:
The first section of the wall is underway - March 4, 2008
The pews are removed and the subfloor exposed.
To polychrome, or not to polychrome? That is the question.

A glimpse of the past - a section of decorated wall from the late 19th century, found intact behind a confessional.
March 31, 2008 - The high altar is covered for protection during the renovations.
The scaffolding starts going up in the nave.

May 6, 2008 - Kevin says, “Who? Me? I didnt do it!”
May 29, 2008 - Goodbye, pews.
May 31, 2008 - Goodbye, floor.
June 26, 2008 - Oh, good. The floor is back.
July 18, 2008 - Our senior warden, Mary Frances Plummer, inspects the restoration of the John La Farge reredos behind the high altar.
Buried treasure! Restoration artist Mark West points out some of the details - including abalone and mother-of-pearl inlays - that were hidden under four layers of ill-conceived “touch-up” paint. Miserere nobis, Domine!
August 5, 2008 - The gold leaf detailing in the altar is restored.
It takes a keen eye and a steady hand…
August 8, 2008 - Installing the wooden floor under the pews.
Wow. Nine books of gold leaf and STILL not done!
The Feast of the Epiphany, 2008
Epiphany was especially joyful for Mt. Calvary this year, as Bishop Rabb came to visit!
“O God, who by the leading of a star didst manifest thy only-begotten Son…”
“Bless incense, Right Reverend Father.”
Censing the altar.
Censing the bishop.
Boy, that humeral veil gets hot!
“Behold the Lamb of God. Behold Him that taketh away the sins of the world.”
Suffer the little children to come unto me, and hinder them not!
The blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost be amongst you and remain with you always.
